Kara Barker, your UCP candidate for Edmonton-Riverview
Edmonton is one of the best cities in the world to raise and provide for a family. I know this first hand having been born in Edmonton and having returned to Edmonton where I have lived for the past 20 years. As a single mother, I saw the highs and lows that this city has to offer.
At the turn of the millennium, I struggled to put food on the table for my family. I know first hand the generosity of Edmontonians who provided for me and my infant son when work was scarce, and times were tough.
I also know the opportunity this city provided for me to turn my fortunes around, by giving me the resources to take a risk when I applied to law school. I know what it was like to be a University student who was bogged down by student loans leveraging my future on the beliefs that once I completed my degree I would find a good paying job and be able to pay off the massive debt I acquired.
After graduation from law school, I know what it is like to see my career path succeed. I have had the opportunity to article with Alberta Justice, and then be hired on as a Crown Prosecutor where I have worked serving the public for the past 10 years.
I know what it is like to be a single mother trying to find love in this city. I also know what it what it is to find the love of my life my husband Kris. I know what it is like to be part of a blended family and the blessing it is to have a man who loves my son as his own.
In my current role, I know what it is like to be a strong advocate for the public interest and I know what its like to stand up for single mothers, university students and professionals alike. Because I have been where you have been, and I have seen what you have seen.
Please support me to become the next MLA for Edmonton Riverview. I will use the same strength and determination that I used to pull myself out of poverty to become a Crown Prosecutor and my strong voice and listening skills to best represent the constituents of Edmonton Riverview.
